Identity Verification on exora
How we confirm who you are, why it matters for your health data, and how your privacy is protected.
What is identity verification?
Identity verification confirms that you are who you say you are. On exora, your account holds real medical data, so confirming your real-world identity is what makes the platform trustworthy - for you, and for anyone you share your records with.
It is a one-time step. Once your identity is verified, your account carries a verified status and your legal name is locked to protect it.
Why it matters
exora is a patient-owned platform built around sharing the right health information with the right people. That only works if identities are real.
- Protects your records - A verified identity makes it far harder for anyone to impersonate you or claim your data.
- Builds trust when you share - When you share records with family or a provider, a verified identity gives the other person confidence they are connecting with the real you.
- Unlocks sensitive features - Some features, such as claiming a healthcare provider registration, require a verified identity first.
How verification works
During early access, the exora team verifies your identity. You start the process from your account settings, and you will receive a notification when your identity has been confirmed.
Additional verification methods are in development and will be offered as exora grows. Whatever the method, the goal is the same: a confident, privacy-respecting confirmation that the account belongs to the real you.
What verification unlocks
- A verified status on your profile, visible to people you connect with.
- Confident sharing with family members and carers.
- Eligibility to claim a provider registration - if you are a registered healthcare professional, identity verification is a prerequisite for provider verification.
Your legal name
When your identity is verified, your legal name is recorded and locked. This prevents it from being quietly changed later to impersonate someone else, which is what keeps a verification meaningful over time.
Your display name - what others usually see - can still be set separately. If your legal name genuinely needs to change (for example, after marriage), contact us.
Privacy
exora collects only what is needed to confirm your identity, and nothing about identity verification changes who can see your health data.
- You stay in control - Verification does not grant anyone access to your records. Sharing is always your decision.
- Minimal data - We confirm your identity and keep only what is necessary to maintain that status.
- Separate from your health data - Identity confirmation and your medical records are handled as distinct concerns.
Identity verification vs provider verification
These are two different things:
- Identity verification confirms who you are. Every verified exora user goes through it.
- Provider verification confirms what you do professionally - that you hold a current healthcare registration. It is only for registered providers, and it requires identity verification first.
If you are a healthcare professional, see our provider verification guide.
